Bedroom Decor on a Budget

bedroom-decor, white-walls, all-white-bedroom

Six years ago we became new home owners. Starting a new chapter in our lives in our new home had us giddy with excitement. We eagerly moved around furniture, bought new decor and painted endless walls and ceilings to suit our taste. I spent that entire summer cutting edges, avoiding getting paint on the crown molding and learning about correct painting techniques. Although the final product was rewarding, the process became tiring. After being on all fours, trying to get the area behind the toilet painted, I vowed to myself I would never paint again.

Fast forward to a few months ago. As much as I loved the periwinkle blue and the ocean-themed decor I had chosen for our bedroom, I wasn’t loving it anymore.  So, I decided to…paint!  I knew this time I wanted white walls, as they make the perfect blank canvas. Walking into the paint store with great confidence in my decision, I was surprised to find not one white color, but at least twenty different shades! To say I was a bit naive as to what I was getting myself into is an understatement. However, I stuck with my mission and started looking for the perfect white.

White Walls

After about thirty minutes, I narrowed my choices down to two: Ultra White and Arctic Breeze. I took home a sample of each, slapped them on the wall and waited for the magic to happen. After seeing the colors as the light changed throughout the day, I settled on Ultra White. Feeling good about this white, I was eager to paint. Over the course of two days, I watched our bedroom transform into a bright and airy space with endless possibilities.

With white walls, there is so much you can do with decor, to the point where it’s exciting, but also overwhelming. So, I chose to start small. I always like a sitting area in a bedroom. A place to read a good book, slip on shoes, or to just take a moment. I wanted this corner of the bedroom to be cozy, peaceful and inviting. As a result, I started planning around a Cape Cod inspired beach print I’ve owned for years.

Decor

First, I looked for wood-based decor to complement the wood frame. Then, I searched for items that had shades of white to complement the light and airiness of the picture. Because of my white walls, I made sure the furniture I chose had texture, so the room wouldn’t look institutional. The mid-modern look of this chair along with the wood detail and fluffy white seat make it perfect for my nook. With white walls, it is super important to use white deliberately and to have lots of texture! Lastly, I love the shades of blue in the Cape Cod print, and knew I wanted to add a touch of blue to my cozy corner. So, I threw my turkish robe on the ladder for a pop of blue.

At this point, I am currently looking for the perfect rug to add to the sitting area. I’m thinking about adding more blue with this stripe rug or sticking to white textures with this white faux sheep skin. Which one do you all like? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Stay tuned for some more changes I’ll be making and sharing with you all!

xo,

H
