One of my favorite childhood memories is visiting my aunt and digging through her closet. She always had the best vintage wear. The best find was cashmere v-neck sweaters and light blue flares with red stitching around the pockets. Fast forward a few years later and flared denim and seventies style sweaters are back in style. I remember pleading with her to let me “borrow” her sweaters and flares. Eventually, she said yes, and I felt like the most stylish little lady! She always held on to pieces she truly loved, as they often came back in style. I have followed in her footsteps and her sage words of wisdom have served me well over the years!
The Perfect Layering Piece
One clothing item I did not keep is my bodysuit. I never thought a bodysuit would make a return in fashion, but boy was I wrong! Imagine my surprise when walking into Madewell and the first thing I see are bodysuits! Striped, turtleneck, grey, buttoned, so many styles and options! I decided to try one on, thinking there is no way I would ever wear one again. Within moments, I proved myself wrong. I was sold the second I tried it on.
The new and improved bodysuit is meant to be a layering piece. It has three different clasps to fit to your size and the buttons fit comfortably, so you don’t really feel them. Also, the cut is modest, not high-rise like the old school bodysuits, so you can wear it and not feel like you’re back in middle school. Bodysuits were invented for a reason. They make the perfect layering piece and will never come untucked!
High-waisted jeans make the perfect pairing for a bodysuit. This combination really accentuates the waist in very flattering way! Pair this ensemble with a cape, over-the-knee boots, and a statement necklace for the perfect, polished winter look.
Have you tried a bodysuit or are you still on the fence? If you’re still not sure, go try one on and thank me later!
