How to Wear a Bodysuit and Musings About Friendship

Musings

I was recently invited to an ornament exchange with a group of lovely ladies. Some who I have known for many years, some who are new friends. Even though I had only just met some of these women, the conversation, like the wine, kept flowing.

There is something about meeting people with whom you have an instant connection and feel like you have been friends forever. It’s in these moments that I am reminded why I’m grateful for my female relationships and why it’s important to talk openly and honestly about issues men might turn a deaf ear to. Things we think only we are going through or have experienced ends up being a shared experience and often times something we can laugh at.

The best part about hanging out with women is knowing you can talk about everything and still feel accepted. Although I make sure to carve out time to hang with the ladies year round, it’s during the holidays that I find myself reflecting on why these connections are meaningful and the power that lies behind them. Magic is created when women gather together.

Something else women can talk about that men will never understand is the bodysuit. Say what?? Yes, the bodysuit is back and more stylish than ever! I found this one at Madewell and instantly fell in love. I’m digging the 3/4 length sleeve and the snaps are adjustable to fit *ahem* all body types. This week’s posts are all about the bodysuit and how to wear it like a grown-up, so you don’t feel like you are back in middle school!

First up, the perfect holiday outfit. A bodysuit always looks good with a flared skirt. You want to achieve a yin yang effect. As I discuss in detail here, a good rule of thumb is to pair opposite, yet complementary shapes. So, if you’re going fitted on top, go looser-fitting or wider on the bottom, as this is more pleasing to the eye. This proportion also highlights the waist and upper body. Add a sparkly statement necklace and voila, you are ready for your next holiday shindig!
