I recently stumbled upon these words of inspiration, which resonated with me immediately. I do my best to live each day with gratitude and kindness and to greet everyone I meet with a smile.
A few years back, on my daily run, I noticed an elderly man slumped over on his cane. As I passed, I beamed a smile and trilled, “Good Morning!” He stood up straight, smiled and replied, “Good Morning. No one has said that to me in a very long time, and now I’m going to have the best day!” He then hobbled off with joyful steps down the street. This memory still brings happy tears. It’s a good reminder that the smallest gesture of kindness can make the biggest impact.
In life, you can choose to live under a dark cloud, waiting for the next storm to come in, or you can choose to be the ray of sunshine for yourself and everyone around you. It’s important to remember that every action we take becomes a habit and that we have a choice in all we do. So, next time you’re tempted to bemoan or criticize, try smiling instead. It will do wonders for you and those around you.
