My family is the nautical type. As a result,we would spend summers sailing in the San Juan Islands, cruising out to Catalina Island, or doing a day cruise off the coast of San Diego. My mom would be wearing her navy and white striped shirt, cooking up a gourmet lunch in the galley, and my dad would be rocking his Sperry Top-Siders navigating at the helm.
The white sails would be blowing in the wind while the beautiful sky blue water lapped against the side of the boat. In light of this, I often found myself in a state of peace and complete relaxation in this setting, which is why I think I gravitate towards nautical stripes. They remind me of being on the boat with my family, which brings a smile to my face and a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart.
Of course, the moment I spotted this JCrew nautical-striped dress on a friend, I knew I had to have it. The nautical stripes reminded me of the times on the sailboat with my family. The stripes are thin and ultra flattering. There are darts at the front, which really help to shape the waist. My friend is shorter than me and the dress is the ideal maxi-length for her. On me, the dress skims right at the ankle. I like this because I can pair it with flats, lace-up sandals, or flip-flops for a casual beachy look.
This tassel necklace has been on repeat and adds the perfect pop of color to a navy-white combo. These JCrew Jill Aviators? I am OBSESSED! I have been looking for a pair of aviators for years, but with my round face, it is hard to find a pair that fit. The color of these sunnies is perfect and the smaller size of the lenses complements my face shape. Likewise, does a certain outfit or color remind you of a family memory?
