That’s a wrap! I just finished my tenth year of teaching this past Friday, and can’t believe I have been an educator for 10 years. Time flies when you are having fun! It feels like just yesterday I was decorating my first classroom, measuring out paper to cover the walls, putting the student’s names on backpack hooks and cubbies and feeling enthused and excited to start my teaching career. Reflecting on the past 10 years, it is amazing to think how much I have learned and how much I have grown. Recently, I had a graduating sixth grader ask why I chose teaching as a career. My answer: it is rewarding; rewarding to discover how much knowledge five and six year olds walk around with, watching little ones turn into independent people, and knowing that each and every child has the possibility and potential to do whatever makes their heart sing. I truly believe teaching keeps you young at heart and makes you see the good in everyone. This is why I love my job. To me, it’s not a job, but a passion and an honor.
